While you won’t need a jerry-can or messy oil funnel, there are still a few essentials you need to keep in the boot (or frunk) of your electric car.
Type 2 charging cable
This one tops our list as the most obvious, but also the easiest to forget about.
Not all public chargers have a ‘petrol pump’ style cable to plug in. A type-two cable solves the problem by allowing you to plug your car into the ‘box’ style charger.
These are generally rated at 22kW, which means they can support around 100km of range per hour of charging.
Cost: $265 from Jet Charge
Portable 240-volt charger
This should have come with your car, but in case it didn’t (or you’ve lost it) you need another one.
These can be purchased with a 5m cable (never use an extension cord with an electric car) and will usually come in a handy carry bag.
Cost: $420 from Jucer
Every EV charging app and account
Sign up to Chargefox, ChargePoint, Evie, NRMA, before you head off!
Most just require a credit card connection, but having the apps installed and activated will ensure you aren’t stuck trying to sign up when you are on the hop!
Cost: depends on speed of charger / supplier
Electric blanket
Sitting at a charger during the winter months, who wouldn’t want a blankie to plug into the 12-volt outlet?
Cost: $49 at Bunnings
Deck of Cards
Recharging your car can take up some time. So why not become a whiz at solitaire?
Or you could buy a book.
