Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has issued a recall for 9558 vehicles across its previous-model Chrysler 300 and Jeep Grand Cherokee lines over concerns a faulty alternator could cause the engine to stall, or pose a fire risk.
The manufacturer reports that affected units may experience diode thermal fatigue due to cyclical loads induced by the power steering.
If the diodes fail, the alternator will no longer supply the vehicle with electrical energy, potentially causing the vehicle to stall without warning – posing a crash hazard.
Additionally, failed diodes may develop a resistive short circuit which could cause heat, smoke, even a fire originating within the alternator.
The affected years by model line are as follows:
2011-2014 Chrysler 300 (LX)
2012-2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WK)

Owners of the recalled units will be contacted by FCA Australia, and will be advised to schedule a service booking with their local dealer to have repair work conducted.
