Ford has issued a recall for 1206 vehicles across its 2016 and 2017 Everest and Ranger model lines over concerns the side airbags may not deploy correctly.
The manufacturer reports that certain vehicles may be fitted with airbag initiators that contain an incorrect chemical mixture.
If the condition occurs, the incorrect chemical mixture may cause the airbag to not initiate in the event of a collision, posing a risk of injury to occupants of the vehicle.
Ford says there have been no reported cases of the fault in Australia.
Affected Everest and Ranger units were built from 29 October 2016 through 24 February 2017.
The company has confirmed that 92 Everests and 1114 Rangers are affected locally.
Owners of the recalled off-roaders and utes will be contacted by Ford Australia, and will be advised to contact their local dealer to have their vehicle inspected and repaired free of charge.
