2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE recalled due to fire risk

A handful of Mercedes-Benz GLE SUVs have been found to be at risk of a fire, caused by a loose 12-volt wiring harness.

Mercedes-Benz Australia has recalled four examples of its 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE, after it was discovered the SUV’s 12-volt wiring harness could come loose and cause a vehicle fire.

The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: “The threaded nut securing the 12 volt wiring harness may become loose over time.

“If this occurs, it could result in higher than normal electrical resistance within the harness which could lead to a vehicle fire.

“A vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and/or damage to property.”

Date of recall notice 21 December 2023
