Alfa Romeo teases new supercar ahead of August 30 reveal

The long-rumoured Alfa Romeo ‘6C’ supercar is due to be unveiled on August 30, with power from a Ferrari-developed twin-turbo V6 engine.

Italian car-maker Alfa Romeo is expected to unveil a new supercar on August 30 – though it might be sold out before covers come off.

In a post on social media platform LinkedIn, Alfa Romeo announced the reveal of the new model would be a “game-changing moment”, along with the tagline “the courage to dream”.

The post included August 30 as the date the supercar – rumoured to be called the 6C – will be unveiled, coinciding with this year’s Formula One Italian Grand Prix.

Alfa Romeo CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato has previously insinuated the supercar will be powered by a petrol engine rather than electric motors – supporting previous reports it will use a version of the Ferrari-derived 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 which currently powers the range-topping Giulia sedan.

In the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA and GTV, the engine produces up to 397kW and 600Nm, though it is expected to receive a boost for the supercar.

In February 2023, Mr Imparato claimed Alfa Romeo was taking deposits for the 6C but expected the supercar’s limited allocation will be sold out before its unveiling.

“It will be sold out before I unveil the car”, Mr Imparato told UK publication Autocar.

“We are working on something that I could put aside the 8C [sports coupe of the late 2000s] in the museum of Arese, being proud of our contribution to the history of Alfa Romeo. That is what we want.

“It could be iconic, super-sexy and recognisable as an Alfa Romeo at first sight.

“It’s not done yet, but it’s ongoing. The positioning is ongoing. We have so many fans asking for something special.”

Alfa Romeo’s current global line-up consists of just three models – the Giulia sedan, Stelvio SUV and Tonale SUV – while the Italian car-maker’s share of the Australian new-car market continues to slip.

In the first six months of 2023, Alfa Romeo reported 267 cars as sold in Australia – down from 295 across the same period last year, and less than fellow Stellantis-owned brands Fiat (413) and Maserati (319).
