One man is in custody after reports of a fatal shooting at a Mercedes-Benz plant near Stuttgart in Germany.
Two people have died and one man has been arrested after a shooting at a Mercedes-Benz factory in Germany on Thursday, according to overseas reports.
The Mercedes-Benz facility in Sindelfingen – near Stuttgart in the country’s south-west – has suspended production following the incident, news agency Reuters reports.
The two victims, both aged 44, were allegedly shot by a 53-year-old co-worker before security personnel restrained the man.
The car-maker confirmed the three people involved were employed by a third party services provider, but were based at the Mercedes-Benz factory.
It’s understood production at the plant – which builds the flagship S-Class and EQS models – has been halted until Friday.
“We are deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic news from Sindelfingen this morning,” Mercedes-Benz wrote in a statement posted to social media platform Twitter.
“Our thoughts are with the victims, their families and all colleagues on site.”
