Porsche prices rise by up to $38,900 in Australia, advanced safety finally standard on Macan

Prices have increased across most Porsche cars in Australia by up to 10 per cent – or nearly $40,000, before stamp duty and registration fees.

Price rises of up to $38,900 across all but one Porsche model in Australia have coincided with previously-optional features being fitted as standard to certain vehicles.

Among the changes, the long-awaited addition of advanced safety systems on the Porsche Macan SUV – five years after similar technology became standard on Australia’s cheapest cars.

Five of Porsche’s six models – the 718 (Boxster and Cayman) and 911 sports cars, Macan and Cayenne SUVs, and Taycan electric vehicle – are affected by the price rises for Model Year 2024 (MY24), by between $2100 and $38,900, or 1.3 to 9.9 per cent.

The petrol-powered Porsche Panamera sedan avoided the price rises as it is expected to be replaced by a brand-new model later this year, likely to bring higher RRPs.

The Porsche Cayenne SUV’s price hikes are part of a comprehensive mid-life update due in local showrooms by October 2023.

The smallest increase has been applied to the Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid Coupe, at $2100 – while the 911 GT3 RS has been hit with the largest price hike, at $38,900, even though deliveries of MY23 versions are due to begin imminently.

The price increases have brought increased equipment for some models – including the standard fitment of autonomous emergency braking technology to the entry-level Macan and Macan T SUVs.

Autonomous emergency braking (AEB) – which slams the brakes if a crash is imminent and the driver is not paying attention – is standard on the cheapest new cars in the country, from the $19,000 Kia Picanto city hatch, to basic $32,000 drive-away Isuzu D-Max and Toyota HiLux work utes.

However it was not standard on the six-cylinder, $119,000 Macan S and $143,200 Macan GTS until this time last year – and it has only now become a standard feature on the four-cylinder, $95,300 Macan and $98,700 Macan T base variants.

AEB was previously included as part of a $1620 option pack with radar cruise control, which is also now standard on the Macan and Macan T for 2024, after it was added to the Macan S and Macan GTS for 2023.

But it remains optional on entry-level and S versions of the 718 Boxster and Cayman sports cars – and not available at all on the manual 718 GTS 4.0 (but offered with the automatic), and all versions of the 718 Cayman GT4 RS, 911 GT3 and 911 GT3 RS, which cost up to $500,000.

Although AEB and radar cruise control are now standard on the Macan and Macan T, buyers are still required to pay $1100 extra for lane-keep assist technology, which is also a standard feature on a number of sub-$25,000 cars – and many sub-$30,000 vehicles.

Lane-keep assist and semi-automated parking systems is now standard equipment across the Cayenne range for 2024, third-party industry price guide Redbook shows – but buyers still need to pay extra for more advanced lane-centring technology.

Alongside the standard safety upgrades, Redbook shows the Macan T and Macan S are now equipped with heated front seats as standard (previously only on the Macan GTS), though the base Macan continues to offer them as a $790 option.

Now standard on 718 base, S and GTS models are auto-folding mirrors with puddle lights, while all models now appear to be fitted with LED headlights as standard, replacing bi-xenon lamps on cheaper models.

Meanwhile, now standard across the Cayenne large SUV range is a wireless smartphone charger and a 360-degree camera with a 3D view, plus heated front seats (previously optional on the base and E-Hybrid models).

The Cayenne base, Cayenne E-Hybrid and Cayenne S gain matrix LED headlights as standard, with the Turbo GT adding tinted matrix LED headlights.

Other equipment upgrades include ventilated front seats on the Cayenne S, soft-close doors on the Cayenne Turbo GT, and adaptive suspension and 20-inch wheels on the Cayenne base and E-Hybrid.
