New spy photos have provided our clearest look under the disguise at the next Hyundai Santa Fe seven-seater, which is set for a boxy makeover with the new model.
The 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe seven-seat family SUV has dropped much of its disguise in the latest spy images, ahead of its expected unveiling later this year, for first Australian showroom arrivals next year.
Images posted to South Korean social media website Autospy show a Santa Fe test vehicle in transport disguised in a vinyl camouflage wrap, confirming the boxy design seen in earlier images.
It is a departure from previous sightings of Hyundai Santa Fe prototypes, which have worn significant black camouflage over much of their bodywork to hide key styling features.
There remains hints of Land Rover Defender styling in the design of the new Santa Fe, plus cues reminiscent of full-size US SUVs, and China’s GWM Tank 300 4WD, which drew inspiration from the Jeep Wrangler.

Design elements seen in previous spy photos include ‘H’ patterns in the tail-lights and front daytime-running lights, Volvo-like five-spoke alloy wheels, and blocky metallic trim on the C-pillar (behind the rear doors).
Inside, spy photos have shown the Santa Fe will adopt a Range Rover-style steering wheel, twin curved screens across the dashboard, and a large open centre console with minimalist controls.
The new Santa Fe – known internally as the ‘MX5’ – is expected to undergo a growth spurt to build the gap to the mid-size Tucson SUV, which grew significantly for its latest generation two years ago.

Power is expected to come from a range of petrol and diesel engines derived from the current model, in addition to hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions.
These hybrid models are expected to retain 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engines, with electric motors of different power outputs.
In Australia the Santa Fe offers a choice of a 3.5-litre petrol V6 with front-wheel drive, 2.2-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder with all-wheel drive, or a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol hybrid with all-wheel drive. It is unclear if these will be retained for the new model.
The 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe is expected to be unveiled in the coming months, ahead of first Australian showroom arrivals next year.
