2023 Mitsubishi Triton Xtreme price and specs

The toughest Mitsubishi Triton sold locally is finally here, but it brings with it a whopping price tag.

  • 2023 Mitsubishi Triton pricing and specifications
  • Rivals include Nissan Navara Pro-4X Warrior, Toyota HiLux Rogue
  • Triton Xtreme flagship is $15,050 more expensive than Triton GSR
  • Priced from $71,990 plus on-road costs

The Mitsubishi Triton has joined the booming hardcore – but factory-backed – off-road pick-up market.

The Mitsubishi Triton Xtreme – designed to compete with other homegrown upgrades such as the Nissan Navara Pro-4X Warrior – was developed in conjunction the Walkinshaw Automotive Group, the former Holden Special Vehicles engineering firm that was also behind the recent Volkswagen Amarok W580 series.

The hardcore version of the ageing Mitsubishi Triton has been in the works for several years, though it won’t make its local showroom debut until the second half of this year – about the same time as the covers are expected to come off the next-generation Mitsubishi Triton.

The Mitsubishi Triton Xtreme is priced from $71,990 before on-road costs. That’s $15,050 more than the next dearest Triton variant, the Triton GSR priced from $56,940 before on-road costs.

As with the Triton GSR, the Triton Xtreme is only available with an automatic transmission in a double-cab ute body style.

A range of off-road-focused additions – plus visual enhancements – set the Triton Xtreme apart from the regular Triton line-up. Notably, Walkinshaw tapped its long-time supplier Supashock for an upgraded suspension package including a set of upgraded monotube dampers.

It also specifies custom 18-inch forged aluminium wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich KO2 all-terrain tyres (the same rubber found on the Ford Ranger Raptor), black fender flares, a black sports bar, and a new red bash plate with integrated LED light bar.

Visually, the Triton Xtreme features a decal package which is said to lean into Mitsubishi’s “Dynamic Shield” styling language. There are no changes inside the cabin aside from a Triton Xtreme plaque set below the gear selector.

There are no upgrades to the Triton’s 2.4-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel engine. This unit continues to produce 133kW/430Nm to a Super Select II four-wheel-drive system through a six-speed automatic transmission.

The company says the upgrades to the Xtreme do not impact the Triton’s 3100kg tow rating or its 5885kg gross combination mass rating. It also retains Mitsubishi’s five-plus-five-year warranty (the latter period of five-year coverage applying only to vehicles that are only ever serviced within the Mitsubishi dealer network).

Using the Triton GSR as a base, the Triton Xtreme inherits equipment including a 7.0-inch infotainment system (with wired smartphone mirroring), leather-appointed upholstery, and heated seats.

Up to 500 examples of the 2023 Mitsubishi Triton Xtreme will be made available through select Mitsubishi dealerships, with representation in every Australian state and territory.

Deliveries of the 2023 Mitsubishi Triton Xtreme are due in the second half of 2023.
