Updated Volkswagen T-Cross here next year, more stock of current model coming

More than 1400 Volkswagen T-Cross city SUVs are en route to Australia at discounted drive-away prices – ahead of an updated model due next year.

A facelift for the 2024 Volkswagen T-Cross city SUV is due in Australia next year – after big shipments of the current model dock on local shores.

Spy photos show next year’s updated T-Cross will adopt a revised look – which may be joined by updated interior technology and safety features – by which time Volkswagen’s smallest SUV will be four years old in Australia.

Ahead of the updated model, Volkswagen Australia has confirmed “more than 1400 examples” of the T-Cross 85TSI Style – the dearer of the two model grades available – are en route to local showrooms in the coming months.

These vehicles will be offered with a $35,990 drive-away deal until June 30 – which is $1000 less than the $36,990 offer that was available before March 30.

The entry-level T-Cross 85TSI Life is also available with a $33,490 drive-away offer until 30 June 2023. These prices are estimated to represent savings of about $2000 compared to the standard drive-away price in NSW.

Standard equipment is unchanged in these vehicles, with the Life fitted with an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 16-inch alloy wheels, dusk-sensing halogen headlights, power-folding mirrors, wireless phone charging, autonomous emergency braking, and cruise control.

The Style adds 17-inch alloys, LED headlights, automatic climate-control air conditioning, keyless (proximity key) entry and start, semi-automatic parking, and adaptive cruise control.

However, a specification sheet distributed by Volkswagen Australia shows blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert technologies remain unavailable due to semiconductor shortages.

Both models are powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine with 85kW and 200Nm, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.

Alongside the T-Cross, stock of some other Volkswagen models – though not all – is also improving as production constraints start to ease.

It is understood the T-Roc small SUV (including the T-Roc R performance model), Tiguan Allspace 132TSI Life and 162TSI Adventure, Passat, Arteon and Touareg are available for immediate delivery or short wait times of a few months.

However, production of the Golf and Caddy has slowed significantly due to a shortage of reversing cameras – while orders have been paused for most standard-size, all-wheel-drive Tiguan models, as well as the Golf R hot hatch and wagon.

The new Volkswagen Amarok ute is due in showrooms next month.
