For sale: 27-litre V12 Rolls-Royce tank engine in Melbourne

Those needing an engine with almost 2000Nm are in luck, with a Rolls-Royce tank engine coming up for sale on Facebook.

Trying to decide what engine to drop into that project car you have in the garage? We might have the solution.

South Gippsland Tank Adventures has listed a Rolls-Royce ‘Meteor’ V12 engine for sale on Facebook, capable of producing up to 480kW and 1970Nm.

The 27-litre V12 was a detuned version of the ‘Merlin’ engine used in the Spitfire and Lancaster aircraft of World War II – except the Meteor was used by British and Australian armies to power Centurion tanks in the decades after the war.

Last month, a bespoke car known as ‘The Beast’ sold for £72,500 ($AU133,000). While The Beast is now powered by a supercharged Merlin engine, the vehicle was originally built with a Meteor engine.

In April 2021, a car builder in Sweden began fitting a Meteor tank engine to a Ford Crown Victoria sedan, but was chasing almost 2000kW with the addition of twin turbochargers.

For anyone wanting their own Meteor engine, South Gippsland Tank Adventures is advertising the V12 engine for $18,000. For more information, click here.
