Driving a Ferrari on a race track is a dream shared by many car enthusiasts, but three-year-old Zayn Sofuoğlu has made it a reality – thanks to his father’s racing heritage.
While most three-year-olds can barely reach the pedals of a toy car, this Turkish toddler has shown age is no limit to abilities by taking his dad’s million-dollar Ferrari SF90 for a spin on a private race track.
Seeing a three-year-old driving a million-dollar supercar isn’t an everyday occurrence, but Zayn Sofuoğlu is no ordinary kid – he’s the son of Kenan Sofuoğlu, a five-time champion on motorbikes in the Supersport World Championship.
While it may appear to be an elaborate hoax, a video uploaded to social media platform Instagram shows Zayn using a booster seat to reach the Ferrari SF90’s steering wheel as well as special extenders to operate the pedals.
After giving the SF90’s 574kW, 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine some revs, he selects first gear and drives away at a low speed, seemingly without anyone else in the car.
Footage from inside the car shows Zayn’s impressive technique behind the wheel, applying smooth inputs while perfectly navigating the circuit’s corners – allowing him to return the car to the pits without a scratch.
According to his Instagram account – which is managed by his parents and has amassed more than one million followers – Zayn has been training to race go-karts and ride motorbikes from a young age, thanks in part to his father’s collection of vehicles.
Putting a three-year-old behind the wheel of a racing go-kart isn’t common but starting at a young age has helped shape the career of multiple Formula One world champions.
Both two-time champion Fernando Alonso and four-time champion Sebastian Vettel claim to have started karting at the age of three, while seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton was a relatively late bloomer – making his debut on the race track when he was eight years old.
In Australia, a majority of go-kart hire facilities require drivers to be at least six years old before taking to the track – the same minimum age requirement for racing competitions held by Karting Australia.
