MG prices rise in Australia by up to $2000 for 2023

Prices of MG cars in Australia have risen for the latest batch of 2023 stock by up to $2000.

Chinese car maker MG has increased prices across most of its models in Australia by up to $2000.

The price increases apply to Model Year 2023 (MY23) vehicles – not any remaining Model Year 2022 stock – with the largest rise applied to the mid-range ZST Excite small SUV, at $2000.

The latest round of price rises for most 2023 MG vehicles follows price rises of up to $4140 for the ZS EV electric car on January 1, and increases of up to $1700 across most MG models for Model Year 2022 (MY22) mid last year.

A MG Motor Australia spokesperson told Drive: “The price increases have been brought about by the rising costs of production and supply chains challenges that are affecting us and other brands.”

“The price increases are in relation to the build year: i.e. if it is a MY22 build, the price remains unchanged, if it is a MY23 model then it is reflected in new pricing,” the spokesperson said.

MG says “existing customers are … protected” from the price increases.

There have been no standard feature changes to accompany the price increases. A full list of the Model Year 2023 prices is below.

The $1000 price rise for the HS Plus EV Essence plug-in hybrid for the new model year is the sixth price increase since launch in March 2021.

Over the first two months of 2023, MG sales in Australia are up 14.7 per cent compared to the same period last year, led by a 95.7 per cent rise in HS SUV sales (but a 0.6 per cent decline for the top-selling MG 3 city hatch).
