A leak under the Audi A6 and A7’s rear seats could cause the engine, gearbox and steering to malfunction.
Audi Australia has recalled 1204 examples of its 2018-2022 Audi A6 and A7, citing an electrical fault that could cause the engine, gearbox and steering systems to malfunction.
The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: “Due to its installation position, if there is liquid or liquid droplets spilt on the rear seat bench the control unit for network management may become damaged and fail.
“A failure of the electronic control unit may have various effects on the vehicle functions. Restricted functions are indicated by warning messages in the instrument cluster.
“Possible restricted functions could be:
- Engine – The engine enters emergency running mode and continues running with reduced performance.
- Gearbox – The automatic gearbox interrupts the power flow in the drive train.
- Steering – The steering reduces the steering assistance in stages; it may therefore be necessary to use more force to turn the steering wheel as the vehicle slows down.
“A failure of the Gateway Control Unit will increase the risk of an accident, causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders,” the recall notice says.
