A Suzuki Jimny ute remains a dream for the time being, but the five-door version could provide the basic ingredients for a pint-sized pick-up.
A Suzuki Jimny ute remains high on the wish list for Suzuki Australia however company executives say for now there are no plans for a workhorse variant.
The Suzuki Jimny five-door wagon – unveiled at Auto Expo in India yesterday – could form the basis of a pint-sized pick-up given it has a longer chassis on which to base a tray-back body.
Whether Suzuki would consider a two-door or four-door ute is anyone’s guess; Drive has created artist impressions of both (above and below).

Suzuki Japan is yet to announce any plans for an off-road pick-up – even though there appears to be pent-up customer demand for a Suzuki Jimny ute.
“There has been no discussion around a Suzuki Jimny ute but if one were to become available we would grab it with both hands,” said the boss of Suzuki Australia, Michael Pachota.
“It remains high on our wish list but for now we have received no communication or any indication there is a Jimny ute is in Suzuki’s forward model plans.
“That said, Suzuki has surprised us before, so we remain hopeful.”
Suzuki Japan has previously teased ute concepts of the Jimny (pictured below), however they have never progressed beyond motor show tease.
