The highly-anticipated Toyota GR Corolla hot hatch is one step closer to local showrooms, as the first customer cars arrive at Australian ports.
The first 2023 Toyota GR Corolla hot hatchbacks have arrived in Australia and are on their way to showrooms – but prices and model grades are still yet to be announced.
Images posted to the Toyota Corolla Club Australia Facebook group show what is believed to be one of the first production GR Corolla hot hatches in the country, in transit to a dealership in Queensland.
Customer deliveries are due to begin before the end of March – but pricing and available model grades are still weeks away from being confirmed, it is understood.
The car pictured – said to be part of a batch of about 20 cars – wears Yokohama tyres and is said to come with a standard steel roof, suggesting it is what’s likely to serve as Australia’s entry-level model.
Higher-grade versions overseas add Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres, as well as a forged carbon-fibre roof – which Australian government documents indicate will be available locally on some models.
The top-of-the-range Morizo deletes the rear seats, and adds Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 track-day tyres, stiffer suspension, more torque, new front seats, revised gear ratios and more.
Similar to the Japanese model, a vented bonnet is standard on the Australian car – but it is unclear if local cars will offer the Torsen limited-slip differentials available overseas.
As reported previously, 500 examples of the Toyota GR Corolla have been allocated to Australia for the first year – or approximately two cars per dealership.
Overseas pricing suggests the range may open from approximately $65,000 plus on-road costs, and extend to almost $100,000 for the two-seat Morizo edition.
More details of the 2023 Toyota GR Corolla for Australia are expected in the coming weeks, as its showroom arrival approaches. Stay tuned to Drive for more details.
