Polestar opens its first Australian showroom at Melbourne’s Chadstone Shopping Centre

Stuck for a last-minute Christmas gift idea? You can now pick up a Polestar while shopping at Chadstone.

You can buy clothes, jewellery, shoes and home appliances, so why not cars?

Chadstone shopping centre in Melbourne, the largest retail complex in Australia, is now home to the first official Polestar showroom in the country.

The Polestar Melbourne Space follows the approach taken globally by the electric-only brand, to offer a minimalistic but welcoming environment for buyers to experience the cars, away from a traditional automotive dealership site.

While the Swedish brand has been selling cars online since the start of 2022, pre-purchase experiences and buyer deliveries have been limited to pop-up stores and warehouse locations, neither of which carry the sense of prestige or permanency offered by the storefront.

The store allows customers to sit in the cars, ask questions about moving to an electric vehicle, and to configure and order a new Polestar 2. In the coming months, Polestar will offer test drives and new-purchase handovers from the Chadstone location.

Samantha Johnson, Managing Director of Polestar Australia said in a media statement: “We are delighted to open Australia’s first highly anticipated Polestar Melbourne Space at Chadstone Shopping Centre.

“We welcome the opportunity to share our new home with customers and visitors interested to learn more about electric vehicle ownership, especially in Australia where demand for electric vehicles is particularly high at the moment.”

While the Melbourne store is the first of its kind in Australia, locations in other states will follow, with New South Wales set to be next in line.

Polestar is open orders for its second model, the Polestar 3 SUV, in the Australian market in the first quarter of 2023 (January to March), ahead of first deliveries a year later (early 2024.

The ‘Chaddy’ centre isn’t a stranger to automotive browsing, as Tesla has operated a similar storefront at the shopping precinct since 2016. The site is also used for experiential ‘activations’ by car brands, with Lexus and Cupra currently linked to the location.
