Queen Elizabeth’s Jaguar X-Type wagon for sale

An unassuming Jaguar X-Type wagon owned by the Queen of England is due to be auctioned later this month, less than three months after Her Majesty’s passing.

A 2009 Jaguar X-Type wagon owned by Queen Elizabeth II is up for auction later this month in the UK.

Listed by Historics Auctioneers without a reserve price, this unassuming Jaguar X-Type is defined by its first owner – the recently-departed Queen Elizabeth II.

The Royal Family have long been fans of the Jaguar Land Rover brand – 26 JLR cars were used throughout the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations earlier this year, while an XJ hearse carried Her Majesty’s coffin to Buckingham Palace for her funeral in September.

Between 2001 and 2009, Jaguar produced more than 350,000 X-Types, with the Ford Mondeo-based model failing to meet its over-ambitious annual sales target of 100,000 cars in the UK alone.

In 2004, the wagon (known as an estate in the UK) body shape was launched – styled by Ian Callum, designer of iconic cars such as the Ford Escort Cosworth, Aston Martin DB9 and Jaguar F-Type among others.

This Jaguar X-Type wagon is one of two which had been used by the Queen.

As reported by Carscoops in 2016, an almost identical example was sold in 2016 for approximately £15,000 ($AU26,500 today).

According to research by Drive, the previously-sold example was first registered in 2008 with the number plate BG58 YLC, while Historics Auctioneers claims the logbook shows its X-Type was first registered in April 2009 with ‘PYN IF’ as its registration.

The Jaguar X-Type is finished in Emerald Fire green with a Barley leather interior, fitted with standard and optional accessories such as electric windows, climate control and a sunroof.

Under the bonnet is a 3.0-litre V6 (172kW/283Nm) mated to a five-speed automatic transmission with power sent to the front wheels.

According to the listing, the X-Type has driven more than 72,500 miles (117,000km) throughout its 13-year life, although it is not known how many of those were spent with the Queen and her corgis.

While the Queen’s X-Type is offered without a reserve price or estimate, it is expected to sell for much more than the £15,000 ($AU26,500 today) its counterpart achieved in 2016.

The 2009 Jaguar X-Type is due to be auctioned on November 26 at Mercedes-Benz World in the UK.
