High demand for the Ferrari Purosangue SUV has prompted the brand to stop taking orders for the luxury SUV – with customers without a Ferrari already in the garage facing a wait time of at least two years.
High demand for Ferrari’s first-ever SUV – the 2023 Ferrari Purosangue – has led the Italian brand to stop taking orders, as wait times for some customers hit two years.
Despite costing $728,000 plus on-road costs – almost twice the price of a Lamborghini Urus – the first batch of Ferrari Purosangues has been accounted for, however representatives for Ferrari declined to confirm how many customer orders the company is holding.
“It’s no secret that we stopped taking orders. We had such an interest without delivering one single car,” said Enrico Galliera, Commercial and Marketing Manager of Ferrari.
“We made a decision that we thought was consistent with the positioning of Ferrari and the model.”
Ferrari has capped production of its first SUV to 20 per cent of its overall output, meaning that just one in five Ferraris sold will be a Purosangue – compared to more than half of all Lamborghinis built each year.
Priority for the first production run was given to existing Ferrari customers, with those missing out now facing a wait time of at least two years.
The 2023 Ferrari Purosangue is powered a 6.5-litre naturally-aspirated V12, paired to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The engine is capable of 533kW and 716Nm, for a top speed of 310km/h and a claimed sprint from 0-100km/h in 3.3 seconds.
Ferrari is among the last sports-car marques to join the booming luxury SUV segment, following the Lamborghini Urus, Aston Martin DBX, Bentley Bentayga, and Porsche Cayenne, among others.
British supercar brand, McLaren, is reportedly considering an SUV – but it is yet to confirm its plans publicly.
The first batch of 2023 Ferrari Purosangue luxury SUVs is due to arrive in Australia in the fourth quarter of 2023 (October to December).
