An iconic race-car recreation used in the hit Ron Howard film Rush has found a new owner.
A replica Formula One car used in the Hollywood blockbuster Rush has been auctioned off in the UK.
It’s one of two replicas built of the McLaren M23 racing car for the 2013 Ron Howard film, with the original car being driven by James Hunt in the 1976 F1 season.
Hunt was portrayed by Australian Chris Hemsworth in the film, which details the intense battle against Ferrari driver Niki Lauda.
Earlier this month, Silverstone Auctions in the UK sold the movie car for £68,625 ($AU121,500), despite the vehicle not being suitable for racing.
It’s believed the replica was used for close action shots in the film, in circumstances where it would have been too dangerous to use the original M23 race car.
While the original F1 car was powered by a Ford-Cosworth ‘DFV’ 3.0-litre V8, the recreation uses an unknown dual-cam four-cylinder engine with twin Weber carburetors – and a pair of fake V8 engine heads to help sell the illusion on camera.
