Quick-thinking staff have intervened to stop a man allegedly trying to steal a rare Ferrari off the showroom floor in Melbourne.
A man has been arrested after allegedly attempting to drive off in a 2022 Ferrari F8 in Melbourne on Friday morning.
Police were called to a luxury car dealership in Port Melbourne just before 10am after employees activated security protocols, which prevented the Ferrari from being driven off the premises.
A 28-year-old man was arrested and taken into custody.
While the Ferrari F8 was approximately $500,000 when new, searching the classifieds reveals asking prices have almost doubled on the used-car market in Australia – with the F8 rumoured to be the last mid-engine model to be released by the Italian manufacturer without hybrid assistance.
The F8 is powered by a 3.9-litre turbocharged V8 producing 530kW and 770Nm, capable of sending the supercar to 100km/h from a standstill in less than three seconds.
Victoria Police say a man from Werribee in Melbourne’s west is currently assisting with their enquiries.
