A faithful replica of arguably the most famous film car in history is headed to auction.
Fans of the classic film franchise Back to the Future now have a chance to live out their dreams, with a replica 1981 DeLorean DMC-12 up for auction in Canada.
The DeLorean has been extensively modified to be a faithful tribute to the time machine from the movie, featuring a flux capacitor, Mr Fusion Home Energy Reactor (from the movie’s 2015 adventures), large rear vents, exposed wiring, and a brass analogue alarm clock on the dashboard.
The DMC-12 from Back to the Future is arguably the most famous movie car in history, no doubt helped by its kitsch gullwing doors and stainless steel body.
It’s theorised the character Emmett ‘Doc’ Brown chose the DeLorean for its unique body, with the instruction manual from a model kit of the car clearly explaining:
“Because the car’s stainless steel body improves the flux dispersal generated by the flux capacitor, and this in turn allows the vehicle smooth passage through the space-time continuum.”

It certainly wasn’t chosen for its on-road speed, with the DMC-12 being famously slow thanks to its 2.85-litre petrol V6 producing 97kW and 207Nm – and in this particular model, a three-speed automatic transmission.
For added effect, this DeLorean has also been fitted with a fog machine and auxiliary lighting.
Listed on Bring a Trailer with bids at $US25,555 ($AU33,900) at the time of writing, the 1981 DeLorean DMC-12 auction ends this Wednesday.
