Chinese electric vehicle start-up SSC has revealed the SC-01 – a 320kW, 1300kg sports car with a price that won’t break the bank.
The Small Sports Car SC-01 has been revealed as China’s “national sports car”, with the electric model claiming respectable figures and a price tag that’s more within reach that most top-end models.
Chinese media reports the SSC SC-01 will be priced from approximately 300,000 Chinese Yuan (equivalent to $AU64,500) plus on-road costs.
Produced by Small Sports Car (SSC) – not to be confused with US company Shelby Super Cars – the SC-01 is a 320kW, all-wheel-drive electric sports car which tips the scales at just 1300kg.
According to Chinese publication Sohu, the electric sports car accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 3.9 seconds, while SSC claims it can achieve a driving range of up to 500km on the Chinese NEDC test cycle – although specific details about the electric car’s battery pack are yet to be announced.
Sohu reports the SC-01 is 4085mm long, 1820mm wide, and 1162mm tall with a wheelbase of 2500mm – larger than the Lotus Elise but smaller than the Lotus Evora.
Taking inspiration from traditional mid-engine sports cars, the SC-01’s batteries are reportedly mounted behind the cabin rather than under the floor – allowing the driver sit closer to the ground.
The SSC SC-01’s exterior design borrows elements from a number of European sports cars – we can see elements of the Lotus Elise, Alfa Romeo 4C and Lancia Stratos – but results in a unique finished product.
While interior photos are yet to be revealed, Sohu reports the SC-01 will adopt a minimalist cabin with no infotainment screen, with SSC aiming to keep the car’s weight down.
Production is due to begin next year ahead of late-2023 deliveries in China, however it is unclear as to whether SSC plans to export the electric sports car.
