Who makes the GWM Ute?

The GWM Ute is made by Chinese privately owned automobile manufacturer, GMW – also known as Great Wall Motors. 

Having sold vehicles in Australia since 2009, the brand offers a range of high-value, low-cost utes that offer ample standard features, especially when compared to traditional rivals.

GWM also owns Haval along with several other brands, two of which are slated to arrive in Australia in 2023 – Ora and Tank. 

Where is the GMW Ute made?

GWM has various manufacturing bases in China. The GWM Ute is built in its city of origin in Baoding, Hebei.

Is the GWM Ute a good car?

The GWM Ute has several appealing attributes, the first being that it’s one of the more affordable options in its class with the base model Cannon starting at $35,990 driveway.

The GWM Ute comes wth ample standard features, starting from the base GWM Ute Cannon 4×2. These include keyless entry and start, 18-inch ‘premium’ alloy wheels, LED indicators and tail-lights, comfort-Tek faux leather seat upholstery, autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition, tyre pressure monitoring and rear parking sensors.

The Ute is supported by a seven year warranty, which sits above the five year industry average.

It also scores ‘torque on demand’ transfer case to send drive to the front wheels when required– a rarity in the class.

What was the first year for the GWM Ute?

The GWM Ute was formally known as the Stead which launched in 2016. For some time the Stead was sold alongside the brand’s new ute, before being replaced. The all new GWM Ute Cannon was newly designed and engineered from the ground up. It officially launched in Australia in 2020. 

How much does the GWM Ute cost in Australia?

The range kicks off at $35,990 for the base model and stretches to $45,490 for the range-topping Cannon X. (Both prices are driveaway).
