Suzuki is bringing back the Grand Vitara, but Australia could miss out.
The 2023 Suzuki Grand Vitara is set to be unveiled next week, marking the return of the popular mid-size SUV.
Suzuki’s Indian arm teased the Grand Vitara in a video posted online, showing a glimpse of the vehicle’s rear end.
Above the centered Grand Vitara badging is a set of horizontal strakes, housing the Suzuki logo and LED tail-lamps.
Despite it not yet being revealed, buyers in India can already place a deposit on the vehicle, with sales to commence through the brand’s local Nexa premium dealership network.
According to Autocar India, the Grand Vitara could be underpinned by Suzuki’s Global-C platform, but will be built by Toyota.
With Toyota and Suzuki enjoying a close relationship, the Grand Vitara is said to be based on the Urban Cruiser Hyrider model offered overseas, powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with either mild-hybrid or conventional hybrid assistance.
Despite a “global unveiling” occurring in the coming days, it’s unclear at this stage whether the model will make a return to Australia.
Whispers of a new Grand Vitara have circled for years, ever since production of the four-wheel-drive ended in 2019, however this is the first official confirmation of a new ‘GV’.
The 2023 Suzuki Grand Vitara will be unveiled on 20 July 2022. Be sure to follow Drive on Facebook to get the very latest news as it happens.
