Call your nanna: Time-capsule 1982 Toyota Corolla for sale in Sydney

Yellow over brown, with a rear window shade, the KE70 is period perfection.

Fancy a modern classic that will put you in good stead with grandma?

This time capsule-condition 1982 Toyota Corolla CS sedan is being offered for sale by Noble Toyota in Sydney.

Looking 1980s-sharp in yellow (paint code 541) over tan cloth seats, the one-owner automatic Corolla sedan has just over 200,000km on the clock and has been treated to some recent maintenance.

Built at the Toyota Port Melbourne plant by Australian Motor Industries (majority-owned by Toyota), the KE70 is the fourth generation of the ‘world’s best selling nameplate’.

It was offered in a sedan, wagon and panel van as well as in a variant by way of the fully-imported T-18 coupe.

At the time, this yellow Corolla would have set nanna back $8006. With inflation, that works out to be $29,850 or about the same as a 2022 Corolla SX petrol sedan ($28,795 plus on-road costs). Sadly, it is not available in yellow.

The 1.3-litre four-cylinder carburetted petrol engine of the KE70 is good for 54kW, and the three-speed automatic drives the rear wheels. The Corolla features an AM/FM radio and, impressively, air conditioning.

Recent work includes the replacement of the rear main seal, rocker cover gasket, a new battery and sump seals.

Offered at $16,470 drive away, the classic Toyota could be a fun weekender for a passionate Corolla fan, or even someone who used to own one, wanting to rekindle the memories.

You can view the listing here.
