The Nissan Pathfinder will arrive in Australia later this year with V6 petrol power only – the same as in the US – but a hybrid edition may be added to the line-up at a later date.
The first new Nissan Pathfinder in almost a decade will come with futuristic design – but retain old-school V6 power – when it arrives in Australia showrooms later this year.
For now, there is no hybrid version of the Nissan Pathfinder available in the US where it is made – and there isn’t one around the corner.
Hybrid versions account for the majority of sales for the new Toyota Kluger – which also has the option of V6 petrol power.
Diesel variants of the Hyundai Santa Fe, Hyundai Palisade, and Kia Sorento account for the majority of the sales mix between four-cylinder diesel and V6 petrol options.
The Mazda CX-9 is a petrol-only proposition, but uses a fuel-efficient four-cylinder turbo petrol engine to deliver V6 power.
The boss of Nissan Australia Adam Paterson told Drive: “The primary demand that we see for Pathfinder right now is still going to be customers that want to utilise towing.
“And the product that we bring to market is definitely going to satisfy that. We think, in the competitive set that we think we’re going to cross-shop against, we’re going to be top of the pack.
“Widening the range of other (engine options) might be something we look at down the line, but we think the V6 with the new automatic transmission that it comes with is going to deliver for what most customers are looking for.”
