2023 Volkswagen Amarok confirmed for July 7 reveal

We will soon get a look at what the 2023 Volkswagen Amarok will look like, and how different it will be to the closely related Ford Ranger.

The next-generation 2023 Volkswagen Amarok will be revealed in full overseas on 7 July, according to Volkswagen Australia.

Speaking to Drive at the recent launch of the Volkswagen Amarok W580X, a representative from Volkswagen Australia said further local details – including pricing and specifications – are set to be revealed in the weeks after the unveiling.

The current-generation Volkswagen Amarok – the first of its kind and fully developed in-house by the German automotive giant – has been on sale in Australia since 2011.

The next-generation model will be a collaboration between Volkswagen and Ford, with the two brands sharing resources for their next generation models

The project is being led by Ford however, using a completely-overhauled version of the successful ‘T6’ platform which has underpinned the current Ford Ranger since 2011.

Furthermore, it was recently confirmed the next-generation Volkswagen Amarok will also adopt Ford powertrains, expected to open with the 2.0-litre twin-turbocharged diesel engine and 10-speed automatic transmission.

Amarok fans will be glad to know that a diesel V6 will continue, using a 3.0-litre Ford engine that makes 184kW at 3250rpm and 600Nm from 1750-2250rpm, when used in the new Ranger.

In fact, Volkswagen recently revealed to Drive if the collaboration did not occur, the Amarok would have likely been discontinued.

The first shipments of the 2023 Volkswagen Amarok are set to dock in Australia by the end of the year, with plans for the model to arrive in showrooms in the early stages of 2023.
