2023 Mercedes-Maybach S680 arrives in Australia priced from $574,000

The first example of the most expensive limousine on sale locally has arrived in Australia ahead of deliveries later this year.

The 2023 Mercedes-Maybach S680 limousine has arrived in Australia before showroom deliveries commence in the second half of this year.

A display car was in Australia ahead of last weekend’s Bathurst 12-Hour motor race, where the German car giant hosts well-heeled, high-flying customers.

Priced from $574,000 plus on-road costs, the 2023 Mercedes-Maybach S680 is the most expensive model in the local Australian line-up today.

It is $129,000 dearer than the $445,000 price tag of its predecessor – and $239,000 dearer than the price of the most expensive Mercedes-Benz S-Class on which it is based, the S580 twin-turbo V8 hybrid, which costs from $335,100.

Previously, the most expensive Mercedes-Benz available locally was the high-performance Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe Black Series priced from $796,900 plus on-road costs, however that model is no longer available after the Australian allocation of 28 examples sold out last year.

Mercedes-Benz Australia is yet to reveal how many customers have placed orders for the 2023 Mercedes-Maybach S680.

However, using the previous Mercedes-Maybach as a guide, more than three-dozen examples of the super-luxury limousine were sold in Australia over several years – at a rate of seven or eight examples per year.

The 2023 Mercedes-Maybach S680 is the sole remaining V12 engine in the Australian Mercedes-Benz line-up.

The twin-turbo 6.0-litre V12 has an epic output of 463kW/900Nm and sends power to all four wheels via a 9-speed automatic transmission paired to all-wheel-drive.

Despite weighing 2255kg – about as heavy as a Toyota HiLux or Ford Ranger ute – the Mercedes-Maybach S680 completes the 0 to 100km/h sprint in 4.5 seconds.

It is longer than the longest variant of the new-generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

Designed primarily for buyers who prefer to be passengers rather than drivers, the back seats recline in a similar way to business-class seats on a long haul flight – and have heating, cooling and a massage function.

Mercedes-Benz Australia declined to nominate how many orders it has received for the new-generation Mercedes-Maybach which, as with its predecessor, is now a variant of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedan but with a unique grille, front bumper, badging, wheels and interior appointments.
