The twin-turbo Ford Ranger Raptor V6 petrol ute is the most powerful Ranger to date – but it will concede bragging rights to its US twin, the Bronco Raptor. Does this mean a more powerful Ranger Raptor is around the corner?
Power and torque outputs for the 2022 Ford Bronco Raptor off-roader have been announced in the US – and they outgun its twin under the skin, the Ford Ranger Raptor ute.
Revealed in January, Ford’s new Bronco Raptor off-roader shares a version of its ‘T6’ body-on-frame platform with the Australian-developed Ranger Raptor ute – as well as its twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre petrol V6.
However, despite the similarities and shared core components, the Ford Bronco Raptor gets more grunt than the Ford Ranger Raptor.
It is unclear if this is because the engine outputs are measured against different testing criteria (SAE versus DIN), or if changes to the intake and exhaust are responsible for the unique outputs.
There is also a chance Ford could be holding an ace up its sleeve to create an even more powerful version of the Ford Ranger Raptor to follow at a later date.
In Australia, the Ford Ranger Raptor has claimed outputs of 292kW (392 horsepower) and 583Nm (430lb-ft).
The Ford Bronco Raptor in the US has claimed outputs of 312kW (418hp) and 597Nm (440lb-ft), Ford CEO Jim Farley confirmed overnight.
It remains to be seen if this higher-output tune will be kept exclusive to the Bronco Raptor, or whether it will also carry across to the US version of the Ranger Raptor due next year.
Either way, it appears to open the door to an even higher-performance version of the Ford Ranger Raptor – though this remains speculation for now, as Ford is yet to confirm such a vehicle.
Despite its related underpinnings and engine – and calls from dedicated off-road fans in Australia – there are still no known plans to introduce the Ford Bronco in local showrooms, given no right-hand-drive version is planned globally.

Meanwhile, the Ford Ranger Raptor is due in local showrooms in August this year, after delays stemming from lockdowns in China and parts constraints.
