The 26-wheeled
Cadillac is more than five times longer than the longest Rolls-Royce, and can seat up to 75 people. The world’s longest limousine – featuring a pool, mini-golf course, and its own
helipad – has been lengthened during a complete rebuild in Florida, breaking its own Guinness World Record held since 1986.Dubbed “The American Dream” and underpinned by six 1976 Cadillac Eldorado sedans, the 26-wheeled car now measures 30540mm from nose to tail and
tips the scales at an estimated 14000kg.For reference, the supremely-luxurious Rolls-Royce Phantom long-wheelbase variant is 6092mm long, meaning five examples lined back-to-back would still fall short of the recently-restored limo.
A 158kW/542Nm 8.2-litre V8 petrol engine is fitted at each end, allowing the vehicle to be driven in either direction. An articulated hinge in the middle of the vehicle – similar to a bendy-bus pivot – improves agility.
Between the two driver compartments is bench seating for 75 people, a large waterbed, swimming pool with its own diving board, jacuzzi, bathtub, mini-golf course, and a functional helipad.
During Guinness’s record assessment earlier this year, a helicopter was successfully landed on the black steel plate (shown in the gallery below) – proving it is functional, if impractical. You can watch the clip by clicking here.
“I found the car on eBay in New Jersey and it was rotting behind a warehouse,” said Michael Manning, who was involved in the rebuild. “It was completely rusted through to the ground – basically a piece of junk … we shipped it down [to Florida] and restored it.”
“We’ve talked about turning it into an electric vehicle. That would take 26 motors – one on each wheel – and the battery? I don’t know how big it would have to be but we’ve got plenty of room for that
battery, so maybe you’ll end up seeing the biggest electric car in the world.”The restored and freshly-repainted ‘American Dream’ limousine will go on display at the Dezerland Park Car Museum in Orlando, where it will be open to the public.
