The DeLorean ‘DMC-12’ time-machine from the Back to the Future film franchise is set to go back on sale next month in miniature form, with Lego launching a new scaled down model kit.

Designated item number #10300, the newest addition to the toy company’s automotive range comprises 1872 parts and measures 35cm from nose to tail. The highest point stands at 12cm, and the wheels are 19cm apart.

The build-it-yourself vehicle can be laid-out in three configurations: flying with the wheels in the air (as per the second movie), driving with wheels on the ground, or in time-travel-ready 1955 configuration, with the fully-extended sky hook.

Functioning gullwing doors, a

scaled-down V6 petrol engine, two character figurines of Marty McFly and Emmett “Doc” Brown, and a replica of the flux capacitor feature in the set.

The new model kit will be available to preorder for

$269.99 in Australia from 1 April 2022, however Lego is yet to announce when examples will arrive in local stores.

The new

DeLorean joins Lego’s growing range of Technic car kits, including: the 2022 McLaren Formula One car, Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, Lamborghini Sian, McLaren Senna, Aston Martin DB5, Porsche 911, Ferrari 488, Land Rover Defender 90, Ford F-150 Raptor, and Bugatti Chiron, among others.

A new version of the DeLorean sports car is currently in development, however an offical launch date for the vehicle is yet to be confirmed – beyond an expected global reveal in August – and few details have been announced.

Industry rumours suggest it will be powered entirely by electricity, and will be a modern interpretation of the original car rather than an entirely faithful replica.

A spokesperson for the manufacturer recently told Drive: “At the moment, we are not releasing any details when it comes to our upcoming vehicle.”
