The new-generation 2019 Chevrolet Silverado has been revealed this week, at an event celebrating 100 years of Chevrolet pick-up trucks.

Launched in smaller ‘1500’ form, the new Silverado is “all new from the ground up”, featuring a refreshed exterior and new materials in the body, designed to cut vehicle weight.

Headlining the ‘2019’ upgrades include a lighter, higher-grade alloy for the tray floor, and a new LT Trailboss variant which features off-road equipment like a factory-backed two-inch lift kit.

Eight trim variants will be available with the Silverado range, which will also expand to include various engine and transmission combinations, along with different body styles.

No details of powertrains have surfaced yet, though we do know the current model offers a 4.3-litre V6, a 5.3-litre V8 and a 6.2-litre V8 – with the 5.3-litre unit available with a mild-hybrid system to improve efficiency.

The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado will make its public debut at the Detroit motor show in January.

Australia

It’s unknown at this stage whether the new Silverado will make it to Australia, though local tuning company Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) has confirmed it will convert the current-generation truck, in 2500 and 3500 guises, to right-hand drive from the second quarter of 2018.

CarAdvice has contacted HSV for further comment, and is awaiting a response. Stay tuned.
