After old mate Jez Spinks went out to assess the on-road character of the new 2018 Kia Stinger, Tony Crawford hit the track at the big performance sedan’s Australian media launch.

Need a refresher on the Stinger’s genesis and what it has to offer?
The Stinger started life as the GT (below), a concept revealed way back in 2011. Although the car we now know as the Stinger is far from identical to that big sleek concept, the styling connections and shared intent are obvious.
As for its name, the Stinger badge first appeared on a completely unrelated two-door concept known as the GT4 Stinger (below). That one was revealed in 2014, but there’s been no official word since then of a production plan.
The first photos of the production-ready Stinger surfaced in April 2016, with more images hitting our inbox in the months that followed, including a very revealing spy shot in November.
Importantly, Kia confirmed the Stinger’s Australian target in September last year.
In January this year, Kia revealed the Stinger officially at the Detroit motor show, and it first touched down here at the Australian Open tennis championship only days later.
Kia confirmed the Stinger’s 0-100km/h time in March, Australian details leaked in a dealer bulletin in June, and we had our first drive shortly after – at the Nurburgring!
Pricing for the V6 model was revealed in August, and full pricing came this week, in September.
