Laurent Blanchet, Peugeot’s product director, has revealed details about the Peugeot 3008 plug-in hybrid, and confirmed a Peugeot 208 EV is due in 2019.
In an interview with AutoExpress, Blanchet revealed the 3008 PHEV will feature a 1.6-litre petrol engine and have a total power output of around 225kW. The PHEV’s electric motor will be located on the rear axle, allowing for front-, rear- and all-wheel drive operation, depending on the conditions.
As reported earlier, the 3008 plug-in hybrid will make its debut in 2019. Despite the high output of the 3008 PHEV, Blanchet seemed to rule out the idea of badging the PHEV as the 3008 GTi.
“The [3008] hybrid is a sporty car, but the GTi badge is more for the small hatchback segment; a 3008 with a GTi badge is a bit too much right now,” Blanchet told the magazine. “We could use the GT label instead.”

In addition, the product director confirmed the company is working on an all-electric version of the Peugeot 208 hatch. Also set to debut in 2019, the 208 EV is said to have around the same power and range as the Renault Zoe.
After its most recent update and equipped with the newly available 41kWh lithium-ion battery, the Zoe has a range of around 400km on a full charge. The Zoe is powered by a 66kW/220Nm electric motor.
